Winter Gardens

As part of the £2.7 million renovation project for Morecambe Winter Gardens’ Grade II Listed Concert Hall, funded by the Cultural Development Fund, we were commissioned to undertake a Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Point Cloud Survey.

This project aimed to enable the client to remotely monitor and assess the renovation progress. The comprehensive funding aimed to support significant enhancements, including the construction of a two-storey extension with modern amenities such as toilets, accessible lifts, and a fire escape. Additionally, the funding covered the complete rewiring of the building’s electrical system, the installation of advanced AV and lighting equipment, and the incorporation of an acoustic shell for the building’s fly-tower. The overarching goal was to transform Morecambe Winter Gardens into a 1,600-capacity music venue within three years.

Our team dedicated approximately a week on-site, employing a drone and an RTC Laser Scanner to conduct an exhaustive and detailed Point Cloud Survey in full colour. This survey captured the intricate architectural details of the historic building, which were essential for the creation of a highly detailed level 300/400 Revit Model. The Revit Model served as a crucial tool in the planning and execution phases, offering precise visualisations and measurements that respected the building’s heritage while accommodating modern upgrades. The Point Cloud Survey, with its high-resolution data, facilitated accurate documentation and analysis, ensuring that all aspects of the building’s regeneration were meticulously planned and executed.

This advanced surveying work was pivotal in ensuring that the renovations not only preserved the historical integrity of the Morecambe Winter Gardens but also equipped it with state-of-the-art facilities to support its future as a premier music venue.
