Case Study: Darwen Market Hall – Surveying for Regeneration

Project Overview:

Darwen’s Market Hall and adjoining Grade II listed Library Theatre are at the heart of the town’s cultural and civic identity. Back in 2022, Site Surveying Services were commissioned to deliver a comprehensive survey package to support the redevelopment and regeneration plans for these landmark buildings.

COntinued Engagement:

In 2024 & 2025, following the successful submission and approval of redevelopment plans – and the announcement of the Darwen Town Deal funding – we were re-engaged to produce some additional surveys and a comprehensive model outside the original scope.

Our role expanded to include some additional high-detail point cloud surveys, which were then developed into a full BIM model to support the refit and redevelopment stage.

This repeat engagement demonstrates the trust and confidence placed in our team, as well as our ability to deliver consistent, reliable data throughout the lifecycle of a complex heritage project.

The Market Hall contains ornate interiors and multi-level spaces that can be difficult to capture with traditional methods. Laser scanning provided a complete record of every feature, supporting an accurate and reliable BIM model to exceptional detail.

As part of our commitment to developing the next generation of surveyors, we also welcomed local T Level students onto site during several stages of the project. Gaining hands-on experience like this gave students an invaluable opportunity not only for learning, but for working on a significant project close to home.
