Supporting Preston’s Cultural Revival: Measured Building Survey

Measured building survey & heritage laser scanning survey | preston

Site Surveying Services were commissioned to deliver specialist surveying in Preston as part of the Harris Quarter, regeneration project.

Working on the Grade II listed Harris Institute, our team provided a detailed topographical survey, measured building survey and Matterport scan of the site, capturing the internal and external geometry of the historic structure to create a comprehensive record of the building.

The Project: surveying in preston

This project forms part of a much larger vision for the city centre. The first phase of the Harris Quarter regeneration, funded by the Towns Fund and delivered by Maple Grove Developments and Eric Wright Civil Engineering, has already transformed key public spaces around Lancaster Road. The installation of innovative street lighting, designed to highlight Preston’s architecture and improve safety, reflects the council’s commitment to preserving heritage while creating a modern cultural destination.

Alongside a Topographical survey and a Measured Building Survey, we completed a 3D matterport for the client, allowing designers to see the building clearly and in real-time.

Why accurate Surveying matters for heritage projects

When working on historic buildings, accuracy is critical. Incomplete or outdated survey data can lead to design conflicts, delays and increased costs during construction. By delivering a robust Measured Building Survey supported by heritage laser scanning, we enabled the project team to:

  • Develop designs that respect the buildings historic significance
  • Reduce risk during planning and construction stages
  • Make informed decisions based on verifiable, high-quality data
  • Preserve a lasting digital record of the structure for future reference

Delivering Trusted surveys in preston

All survey works were completed by our in-house team, ensuring consistency, quality control and clear communication throughout the project. Our experience in surveying heritage buildings in Preston meant we could work efficiently on site while maintaining the care and attention required for culturally significant assets.

It’s always an honour to be involved with local projects that have the community and Preston City culture in mind. We successfully played our part in the journey to restore the Harris Institute as Preston’s civic and cultural heart, supporting its story of history, progress, and regeneration.
